I am the Principal Dentist at Smiles in Tandem, an independent dental practice in Huddersfield aimed at providing person-centred care in a sustainable way so that together we can enjoy a healthy planet and you can enjoy a healthy smile and mental wellbeing.
I love being a dentist, so much so that I'm writing a book about being a happy dentist which I hope will inspire other young (and old) dentists with a passion for helping patients and fixing teeth. This profession gives me the opportunity to connect with people and help them every day in a friendly environment with the support of a brilliant team at Lindley Dental.
I'm often complemented on my calming manner, particularly from anxious patients who may have put off seeing a dentist for many years. I don't look like a typical dentist and most patients tell me I'm not like any of their previous dentists, in a good way, of course! You can rest assured that I will do everything I can to make your journey with me as comfortable as possible as we make sure you have healthy teeth and a smile you can be proud of.
I really enjoy working with anxious patients and giving them confidence back in their teeth and in dentists. I treat every patient as an individual and I work with my patients to find the best solutions for them, which is often not the same as what is best for everyone else.
I am dedicated to continuing professional development (CPD) as a means to always offer the best possible treatment for my patients. Since graduating in 2010 I have completed over 2000 hours of CPD in addition to working full time. This has allowed me to greatly expand my repertoire of treatments in order to help my patients in whichever way is most appropriate for them.
I regularly mentor dentists on the Masters in Dental Implantology programme at the University of Salford and I enjoy lecturing on the programme and elsewhere on the subject of dental implants and happiness in dentistry.
Outside of dentistry I love to spend time with my young family. I enjoy playing piano, having started playing blues and jazz in high school, I now play and sing (very badly) rock and pop songs. I also play and watch many sports whenever the opportunity arises. I've supported Everton for my whole life, a burden for which my dad is entirely responsible and one which I'll probably pass on to my kids.
